Be wary of Yes

When you are going about day to day life many questions and requests tend to be asked of you. There are two responses that are most often given: Yes and No. There is power in saying each of these, but you should be wary of someone who says Yes all of the time. So lets look at the dangers of someone who says Yes to everything.

First it is important to note that someone who says Yes to everything has a higher chance of burning out. When someone says Yes, they are constantly taking on new work or obligations even if they aren’t able to handle it. While you may be thinking, this is great they are doing everything and its all going to be done well. Typically most people have an optimal amount of work that they can take on in all areas of life, before the quality of that work declines. Someone who says Yes can bring on the risk to you that you aren’t getting quality work especially if they end up being burned out.

Second, you start to sacrifice your well being. When you constantly say Yes, you are taking away an opportunity to do something that you like. The economic concept of opportunity cost should come to mind. We all need time to de-stress and most of the time those who say Yes to everything carry a very high level of stress.
