Building an asset mindset

Success comes down to our mindset, because it shapes our perspective. With perspective, two different people can see the same event or set of information and understand it in completely separate ways. If you are looking towards success you need to develop an asset mindset. This isn’t quite the same as a positive mindset. As a positive mindset is about looking at a situation and finding the good with-in it. An asset mindset is about continuously taking note of how you can apply your skills and assets to a solve problems. It is much more action driven.

We all have different assets in our life, and they extend much further than the dollars we have in our bank account. This is our skills, experiences, resources, network, support group, and other resources we can draw on. When we think of all of these different tools that we have available, it makes us feel much more in control. It makes us feel stronger because we have choices and more likely than not, somewhere with-in those assets are a combination of tools that you can use to solve the problem.

So how do you apply this mindset? First you should be proactive, the adage of an ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure, rings true. Take advantage of those assets to prevent bad things from happening on all fronts. Build up an emergency fund in case of unexpected expenses occur, take time to build and maintain…
