Why you’re suffering from boredom

Boredom is generally associated with younger people, who have energy and time, but nowhere to direct them. You would think as an adult that you wouldn’t suffer from boredom after all theres so much you could do. But the reality is that you can suffer from boredom at any point in your life. If we were to simplify this concept, one of the main reasons we get bored is because we aren’t engaged. Boredom in itself is a complex topic with many contributing factors. While we can’t get rid of boredom entirely, and a little bit may be helpful, lets look at 3 reasons why you are suffering from boredom and 1 powerful way we can use it to guide us to success.

  1. You can’t focus

Generally the focus on activity shows a number of factors such as need or desire. Think of someone who is focused at work, if they don’t like their job the focus isn’t on the work its paying their bills. Someone who loves what they are doing such as playing a video game is likely to be very engaged and focused. If you are unable to focus it could mean that an activity is not engaging you enough. Just as we mentioned in the work example, we can’t always choose what we are doing there are going to be moments of boredom in our life. The issue is when they come from things we enjoy. When we can’t focus we can try taking a break to re-focus, but an effective way to bring about focus is to learn something…
